Accountability for nursing facilities
Nursing home abuse and neglect can cause serious physical, emotional and financial harm to residents and their families. We represent elderly residents who were abused or neglected in Louisiana nursing homes, and their families.
TODO: attorney to confirm the old page's statement that the firm has "tried numerous nursing home cases to verdict" before it is used.
Federal and state rules require facilities to keep residents safe and meet their basic needs. Too often, problems trace back to understaffing, poor training and management that looks the other way. When that happens, residents suffer.
What is nursing home abuse?
Nursing home abuse is any act, or failure to act, by caregivers that harms a resident or puts them at serious risk of harm. It can be physical, emotional, sexual or financial, and it often comes from problems throughout a facility.
Warning signs
- Physical abuse. Hitting, slapping or pushing; improper use of restraints; unexplained bruises, broken bones or wounds.
- Emotional or psychological abuse. Intimidation, threats, isolation or humiliation; sudden mood changes or withdrawal.
- Sexual abuse. Any non-consensual sexual contact, including with residents who cannot give consent.
- Financial exploitation. Theft, coercion or misuse of a resident’s money or property; an unexplained drop in their standard of living.
- Neglect. Failure to provide food, water, hygiene or medical care; bedsores; unexplained health problems.

Claims and compensation
TODO: attorney to verify the statement about punitive damages.
When facilities violate the rules that protect residents, we pursue the legal remedies available, which may include personal injury claims, wrongful death claims and, in cases of willful misconduct, punitive damages. Compensation may include:
- Medical expenses and future care costs
- Pain and suffering
- Mental anguish and emotional distress
- Loss of quality of life
- Wrongful death damages
We work with medical professionals, geriatric care providers and investigators to build cases that hold facilities accountable.
